Manchester's garage folk outfit Pleasure Gap delivers eleven cuts of murky psychedelia on their sophomore LP, "Cream Wave". From the high-strung tension of "Break the Budget" and "Wrinkles" to the delicate gloom of "Shriek" and "Dunce Cap", Pleasure Gap establishes a thick and heavy atmosphere throughout. "Cream Wave" only emerges from its sweat-stained depths of fuzz for occasional bursts of melodic clarity and bizarre psychedelic textures. "I don't want to be seen unless they fix the lighting", Egan painfully mutters on standout "Nu Genes" - the perfect mantra to a record beautifully rooted in the muck.
